Ruxandra Sireteanu

Ruxandra Sireteanu was a Romanian biophysicist and neuroscientist known for her pioneering research into the human visual system. She studied at the University of Bucharest and conducted research in Pisa, Italy, and Lausanne, Switzerland, before moving to Germany. There, she worked at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich and later at the University of Ulm. In 1978, she moved to Frankfurt to join the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research and inaugurated the chair in Biological Psychology at Goethe University in 1999. She also held visiting positions at universities in the United States, including the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focused on the development of the visual system from birth into adulthood, particularly studying disorders like amblyopia.
