Serban Titeica

Șerban Țițeica was a Romanian quantum physicist and the founder of the Romanian school of theoretical physics. He was born on March 27, 1908, in Bucharest, Romania. After graduating from Mihai Viteazul National College, he attended the University of Bucharest, where he obtained degrees in Physics and Chemistry, and Mathematics in 1929. He furthered his studies at Leipzig University under Werner Heisenberg and earned a doctorate in 1935. Țițeica taught at Politehnica University of Bucharest and was a professor at the University of Iași and the University of Bucharest. He became a titular member of the Romanian Academy in 1955 and served as its vice president. His contributions to quantum physics, thermodynamics, statistical physics, and elementary particle physics are significant. He passed away on May 28, 1985, in Bucharest and is buried at Bellu Cemetery.
