Boris Sket

Boris Sket was a renowned Slovenian zoologist and speleobiologist, known for his extensive research in the field of cave biology. He was born on July 30, 1936, in Ljubljana, and passed away on May 7, 2023, at the age of 86. Sket obtained his doctorate from the University of Ljubljana in 1961 and became a prominent figure in the scientific community. His work focused on the faunistics of troglobionts and biospeleology, contributing significantly to the understanding of cave ecosystems. Throughout his career, he described over a hundred new species, some genera, and a family of invertebrates, mostly crustaceans and leeches. Sket's legacy includes his role as a professor, his tenure as the rector of the University of Ljubljana, and his membership in the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. His dedication to the study of subterranean biology earned him numerous accolades and approximately 35 animal species named after him.
