Aron Cotrus

Aron Cotruș was a Romanian poet and diplomat born on January 2, 1891, in Hașag, Sibiu County, which was then part of Austria-Hungary. He attended secondary school in Blaj and the Andrei Șaguna High School in Brașov, later studying at the University of Vienna. He became known for his work with nationalist newspapers and cultural magazines. During World War I, he worked under the Romanian Legation in Rome. After the war, he returned to Romania and became a journalist in Arad. A royalist, he later supported Ion Antonescu and became a member of the fascist Iron Guard. He worked as a press attaché in Rome and Warsaw, and during World War II as a press secretary in Madrid and Lisbon. After the collapse of the Antonescu regime, he became a political refugee in Francoist Spain and eventually settled in the United States in 1957. He passed away on November 1, 1961, in La Mirada, California, and his remains are in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland.
