Mihai Beniuc

Mihai Beniuc was a prominent Romanian socialist realist poet, dramatist, and novelist. Born on November 20, 1907, in Sebiș, Arad County, he attended Moise Nicoară High School and later graduated from the University of Cluj with a major in psychology, philosophy, and sociology. His literary works, deeply influenced by his academic background, reflected his commitment to the socialist realism movement. Beniuc served as the President of the Writers' Union of Romania and became a titular member of the Romanian Academy in 1955. He also held a professorship at the University of Bucharest after 1965. His notable works include plays like 'Cântece de pierzanie' and 'Orașul pierdut,' as well as novels such as 'Pe muche de cuțit.' Beniuc's contributions to Romanian literature were significant, and his works continue to be studied and appreciated. He passed away on June 24, 1988, in Bucharest and was laid to rest at the city's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
