Marsi Paribatra

Marsi Paribatra, also known as Princess Marsi Sukhumbhand Paribatra, was born on August 25, 1930, in Bangkok, Thailand. She was the only daughter of Prince Chumbhot Paripatra, Prince of Nakhon Sawan, and spent much of her childhood abroad in Java, Indonesia, and England. After World War II, she completed her education in Switzerland, France, and Spain, becoming the first female pupil at Aiglon College. She earned a doctorate in literature from the University of Paris in 1954 and a second doctorate in art history from the University of Madrid in 1959. Marsi was an academic, lecturing in Madrid and Bangkok, before becoming a self-taught artist. She exhibited her works in Bangkok and Paris, including at the Musée d'Art Moderne. In 2004, she suffered a stroke that ended her painting career. Marsi passed away on July 9, 2013, in Annot, southern France, after an illness. Her legacy continues through the Marsi Foundation, which supports Thai artists.
