Vo Thi Thang

Võ Thị Thắng was a Vietnamese revolutionary and stateswoman known for her role in the Vietnam War and her subsequent political career. Born on December 10, 1945, in Tân Bửu Commune, Bến Lức District, Long An Province, Vietnam, she joined the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam at the age of 16. She became famous for her "Smile of Victory" photograph taken at her sentencing during the war. After the war, she served in various political positions, including as a member of the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. She passed away on August 22, 2014, in Ho Chi Minh City.
