Tu Duyen

Tú Duyên, born Nguyễn Văn Duyến, was a Vietnamese painter renowned for his Đông Hồ folk prints from finger-painted woodblocks. His work added new dimensions to traditional thủ ấn họa hand stamp paintings. He began his artistic journey as a private student of Nam Sơn and later attended the École des Beaux-Arts de l'Indochine. His illustrations, which drew subjects from literary works and folklore, began to feature in newspapers from the late 1940s. Tú Duyên's legacy includes his contributions to Vietnamese art and culture, particularly through his depictions of Vietnamese kings and historical figures. His work is exhibited at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, including nine paintings on canvas and 52 wood carving plaques.
