About me / Bio:
Peter Egge was a renowned Norwegian author, journalist and playwright. His writing career extended from 1891 until 1955. He was born in Trondheim, Norway, as the second eldest in a family of nine children. He spent his childhood and adolescence in the rural district of Innherred, where he was influenced by the local customs and traditions. He attended the Trondheim Cathedral School, from which he graduated in 1887. He made his literary debut with the novel Almue (1891), which depicted the lives of the peasants in his native region. He later worked as a journalist for the newspaper Dagsposten in Trondheim, and moved to Oslo (then Christiania) in 1897. He married Anna Marie Svensen the same year, and they had three children: Ørnulf, Asta, and Randi. Egge wrote more than 40 novels, plays, and memoirs, covering a wide range of genres and themes. He was known for his humorous and romantic stories, as well as his realistic and descriptive style. Some of his most famous works include Jomfru Nelly Maartens (1897), Gammelholm (1899), Hjertet (1907), Den hellige sjø (1922), Hansine Solstad (1925), and Minner fra barndom og ungdom (1948). He also wrote several comedies and serious dramas for the stage, such as Faddergaven (1897), Kjærlighet og venskap (1904), and Narren (1917). He was a prominent figure in the Norwegian literary scene, and served as the chairman of the Norwegian Authors' Union from 1913 to 1916 and 1935. He received several awards and honors for his work, such as Gyldendal's Endowment in 1935. He died in Oslo in 1959, at the age of 90. [1](^1^) [2](^2^) [3](^3^) [4](^4^)
