Magnus Poulsson

Magnus Poulsson was a Norwegian architect who was one of the leading figures in creating a new and Norwegian architecture, inspired by the 17th and 18th century architecture. He worked closely with Arnstein Arneberg, and together they designed the Oslo City Hall, the Telegrafbygninga, and several other public buildings. Poulsson also designed private residences, office buildings, churches, and interiors. He was especially known for recreating the tradition of Norwegian folk wooden architecture. Poulsson was also involved in the preservation and restoration of ancient monuments and historical buildings. He was the chairman of the Ancient Monuments Society from 1917 to 1930 and the chairman of the supervisory committee for the Nidaros Cathedral reconstruction from 1931 to 1958. He received several awards and honors for his work, such as the Houen Foundation Award, the Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, and the Medal of St. Hallvard. He died in Asker in 1958 at the age of 76.
