Hjalmar Christensen

Hjalmar Christensen was a Norwegian writer and a prominent literary critic. He was born in 1869 in Førde, where he grew up on a farm. He studied law, languages, history, and classical philology at the University of Oslo, where he received his doctorate in 1902. He worked as a teacher, journalist, and editor, and wrote numerous articles and books on various topics, such as literature, politics, history, and culture. He was one of the founders of the Norwegian Writers' Association in 1898, and an influential voice in the nation building before and after 1905. He also wrote several novels with cultural history content, such as Fogedgården, which depicted life in his native Førde. He died in 1925 at the age of 56.
