Servando Gonzalez

Servando González was a Mexican film director who started his career as a film laboratory technician at Estudios Clasa. He became the head of the film laboratory of Estudios Churubusco and later dedicated himself to film direction. His first feature film, Yanco, received critical acclaim and won 25 awards. He also co-directed The Fool Killer with Anthony Perkins, becoming the first Mexican director to work in Hollywood. He was involved with the ruling PRI party in Mexico and made documentaries for the government, including the controversial footage of the Tlatelolco massacre in 1968. He also filmed the presidential campaign of Luis Echeverría and became the director general of the Department of Film of the Presidency. He directed several films based on novels, such as Los de abajo, El elegido, and El último túnel. He died in Mexico City on 5 October 2008, at the age of 85. He was the grandfather of actress Ximena González-Rubio and director Pedro González-Rubio.
