Aleksander Doba

Aleksander Doba was a Polish engineer, traveler and kayaker who became famous for his long voyages across the oceans. He started kayaking at the age of 34 and soon became passionate about exploring the world by water. He won several national and international competitions in whitewater kayaking and canoeing. He also participated in various expeditions to remote regions such as Greenland, Spitsbergen, Siberia and Alaska. His greatest achievements were his three solo transatlantic kayak trips, which he completed between 2010 and 2017. He was the first person to kayak across the Atlantic Ocean from continent to continent and in both directions. He also set the records for the longest and the oldest solo kayak crossings of the Atlantic. He was named the 2015 Adventurer of the Year by National Geographic and received many awards and honors in Poland and abroad. He was known for his humor, courage and perseverance. He died at the age of 74 while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, fulfilling his lifelong dream.
