Ryszard Kapuscinski

Ryszard Kapuściński was a Polish journalist, photographer, poet and author who reported on several dozen wars, coups and revolutions in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He was considered a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature and received many awards for his work. He was known for his literary style of reportage, which blended factual journalism with personal and poetic observations. He wrote several books based on his experiences, such as The Emperor, Shah of Shahs, The Shadow of the Sun, and Travels with Herodotus. He also published collections of poems, essays and photographs. He was a supporter of the pro-democracy Solidarity movement in Poland and was fired from the Polish Press Agency for his political views. He died of a heart attack in Warsaw in 2007.
