Olga Boznanska

Olga Boznańska was a Polish painter of the turn of the 20th century. She was a notable painter in Poland and Europe, and was stylistically associated with the French impressionism, though she rejected this label. She studied art in Munich and became well connected within the Polish artistic community there. She moved to Paris in 1898 and became a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and started teaching at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. She was known for her portraits, still lifes and landscapes, which showed her psychological insight and subtle use of color and light. She received many awards and honors for her work, such as the French Legion of Honour, the Golden Laurel of the Polish Academy of Literature, and the Order of Polonia Restituta. She died in Paris at the age of 75.
