Michal Bobrzynski

Michał Bobrzyński was a Polish historian, lawyer, and conservative politician. He was one of the founders of the Kraków school of historiography, which emphasized the role of law and institutions in shaping Poland's history. He was also a prominent figure in the political life of Galicia, a province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that was inhabited by Poles and Ukrainians. He served as the viceroy of Galicia from 1908 to 1914, and as the minister for Galician affairs from 1916 to 1917. He advocated for a compromise between the Polish and Ukrainian national movements, and for a loyal cooperation with the Habsburg monarchy. He retired from politics after the collapse of the empire and the restoration of Poland's independence in 1918. He continued to write and publish historical works, and to advise the Polish government on various issues. He died in 1935 at his estate in Łopuchówko, near Poznań.
