Zdzislaw Krzyszkowiak

Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak was a Polish track and field athlete, who won the gold medal in the 3000 m steeplechase at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. He also won two gold medals at the 1958 European Championships in Athletics, in the 5000 m and 10,000 m events. He set two world records in the 3000 m steeplechase, in 1960 and 1961, becoming the first man to run under 8:30 in the event. He was named the European Sportsperson of the Year in 1958 by the Polish Press Agency and the best Polish athlete of the year in 1958 and 1960 by Przegląd Sportowy. He retired from sports in 1963 due to injuries and worked as a coach and a tourist guide. He died in 2003 in Warsaw at the age of 73.
