Susi Hyldgaard

Susi Hyldgaard was a Danish jazz singer and composer who was one of the most popular and influential artists in Denmark. She started her career as a journalist for Danmarks Radio, but later switched to music and studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of Copenhagen. She made her album debut with My Female Family in 1996 and won a Danish Grammy for Something Special Just For You in 2000. She performed a blend of jazz, rock, pop and funk, and collaborated with many notable musicians, such as Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Nils Landgren, Dalia Faitelson, Michael Mantler, and Robert Wyatt. She also wrote music for several poets, including Benny Andersen. She was the chairperson of the Danish jazz composers union DJBFA for six years until she became ill in 2019. She died of cancer at the age of 59, leaving behind a rich legacy of artistic achievements.
