Elna ornberg

Elna Ørnberg was a Danish ballet dancer and instructor who as a soloist starred in Bournonville's productions at the Royal Danish Theatre from 1907 to 1933. She was trained by Hans Beck and Valborg Borchsenius in the Bournonville style, and also received further training with Mikhail Fokin and George Balanchine. She danced in many of Bournonville's works, such as Napoli, Valdemar, Faust, The Conservatory, and La Camargo. She also performed in other classical and modern ballets, such as Coppélia, Sylvia, Pierrette's Veil, Scaramouche, and Tycho Brahe's Dream. She was admired for her brilliant technique and expressive personality. She also choreographed some ballets, such as Strauss in Paris and Benzin. She retired from the stage in 1933 and opened a ballet school in Copenhagen with her husband Leif Jørgen-Jensen, who was a cellist. During the Second World War, she collaborated with the Nazis and participated in propaganda-based radio plays and sketches. As a result, she and her husband were imprisoned for six months after the war. In the late 1940s, they left Denmark and settled in Madrid, where they opened another ballet school. She also worked as a ballet instructor in Spain. She died in Madrid in 1969, a few days before her 79th birthday.
