Tadeusz Czacki

Tadeusz Czacki was a Polish statesman and author who played an important role in the Enlightenment in Poland. He was a member of the Commission of National Education, the co-creator of the Constitution of 3 May 1791, and the co-founder of the Society of Friends of Science. He was also a pioneer of Polish historiography, economics, and numismatics. He wrote several works on the history, culture, and trade of Poland and its neighbors. He was also a patron of arts and sciences, and a collector of books, coins, and medals. He founded the famous Library of Poryck, which contained over 10,000 volumes of rare and valuable books. He also established the high school in Kremenetz, known as the Liceum Krzemienieckie, which became a center of learning and culture in Volhynia. He was a supporter of the reform movement in Poland and an opponent of the partitions of Poland. He was awarded the Order of Saint Stanislaus in 1786 and the Order of the White Eagle in 1792. He died in Dubno in 1813 and his heart was buried in the Liceum Krzemienieckie.
