About me / Bio:
Jan Nepomucen Bobrowicz was a Polish composer, music editor, and publisher. He was born in Kraków in 1805 and studied the guitar in Vienna with Mauro Giuliani. He was a secretary in the senate of Kraków and participated in the November Uprising of 1830-1831, for which he received the Virtuti Militari medal. He emigrated to Saxony and worked as an editor for the music-publishing firm of Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig. He also ran his own publishing business and edited the Polish Armorial by Kasper Niesiecki. He composed about 40 works for the guitar, many of them in the form of theme and variations. He was called "the Chopin of guitar" by Franz Liszt. He died in Dresden in 1881.
