Fernando del Paso

Fernando del Paso was a Mexican writer and artist who was known for his long, experimental, and often humorous novels covering the breadth and history of Mexican culture. He studied biology and economics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, but he discovered his passion for literature and art. He worked as a journalist, broadcaster, and advertising executive in Mexico and abroad. He lived in London for 14 years, where he worked for the BBC, and in France, where he worked for Radio France Internationale and briefly served as Consul General of Mexico. He was a member of El Colegio Nacional de México and the Mexican Academy of Language. He won several international awards, including the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, the Alfonso Reyes International Prize, the Rómulo Gallegos Prize, and the Xavier Villaurrutia Award. He also painted and exhibited his works in various galleries. He died of cancer in 2018 at the age of 83.
