About me / Bio:
Sir Malik Feroz Khan Noon was a Pakistani politician and statesman who served as the seventh Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1957 to 1958. He was born in a wealthy and influential landowning family and was educated at the Oxford University and the London School of Economics. He started his career as a lawyer and joined the Indian National Congress in 1921. He later switched to the Muslim League and became a close associate of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He served as the High Commissioner for India in London from 1936 to 1941 and as the Defence Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council from 1942 to 1945. He was one of the founding fathers of Pakistan and played a key role in the Partition Council that divided the assets between India and Pakistan in 1947. He also served as the Governor of East Pakistan from 1950 to 1953 and as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1953 to 1955. He was appointed as the Prime Minister of Pakistan by President Iskander Mirza in 1957, after the dismissal of Chaudhry Muhammad Ali. He faced several challenges during his tenure, such as the One Unit scheme, the language issue, the provincial autonomy, and the opposition from the Muslim League. He negotiated the Indus Waters Treaty with India, which resolved the water dispute between the two countries. He also improved the relations with China and the Muslim world. He was dismissed by Iskander Mirza in 1958, who imposed martial law in the country. He retired from politics and lived in his ancestral village of Nurpur Noon until his death in 1970. He was considered a moderate and pragmatic leader who tried to resolve the constitutional crisis and the regional disparities in Pakistan.
