Salma Mumtaz

Salma Mumtaz was a Pakistani film actress, director and producer who made her film debut as an actress in the 1960 Urdu language film, Neelofar. She was also a dancer and acted in more than 300 films, mostly in Punjabi, during her career. She became known for playing the role of 'mother' in films opposite well-known Pakistani and Indian actors, such as Waheed Murad, Mohammad Ali, Shahid and Akmal. She also directed and produced a few films. She was born in Jalandhar in 1926 and moved to Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947. She died in Lahore in 2012 at the age of 85 or 86 from complications of diabetes. She was the elder sister of Pakistani actress Shammi and the grandmother of model Sadaf Kanwal. She was widely respected and admired by the Pakistani film industry and the public for her achievements and generosity.
