Nasreddin Murat Khan

Nasreddin Murat-Khan was a Russian-born Pakistani architect and civil engineer. He was born in Buynaksk, Dagestan, in 1904. He graduated from the Institute of Architects, Town Planners and Civil Engineers at Leningrad State University in 1930. He worked as a chief engineer and chief architect in various engineering projects and institutions in the Soviet Union until 1944, when he fled to Germany due to his involvement in the liberation movement of the Muslim Caucasus region. He married Hamida Akmut, a Turkish refugee, in 1946. He migrated to Pakistan in 1950 and joined the Public Works Department as an executive engineer. He designed many buildings and structures in Pakistan, such as the Nishtar Hospital, the Nishtar Medical College, the Wah Ordinance Factory, and the Oil and Gas Development Corporation. His most famous work is the Minar-e-Pakistan, the national monument that commemorates the Lahore Resolution of 1940. He also designed the Gaddafi Stadium, the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan. He received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, the third-highest civilian award of Pakistan, in 1963. He died of a heart attack in Lahore on 15 October 1970. He was 66 years old.
