Riazuddin

Riazuddin was a Pakistani theoretical physicist and a former director of the Theoretical Physics Group (TPG) of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). He was born in Ludhiana, British India, on 10 November 1930. He received his MSc and PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Abdus Salam. He worked at various institutions, including the University of Chicago, CERN, DESY, ICTP, and COMSTECH. He published several research papers in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as superstring theory, particle physics, quantum mechanics, and cosmology. He was also a social and democratic activist, who supported various causes such as human rights, women's rights, minority rights, and environmental protection. He was a close friend of physicists Abdus Salam, Asad Naqvi, and Ishfaq Ahmad. He received the Royal Society Award in 1968 and the Spirit of Abdus Salam Award in 2016. He died of natural causes in Islamabad on 9 September 2013. He was 82 years old.
