Wasif Ali Wasif

Wasif Ali Wasif was a Pakistani writer, teacher, columnist and sufi who was known for his aphorisms and short prose pieces. He wrote for various Urdu newspapers and magazines, and also delivered lectures and dialogues on various topics of life, spirituality, literature and culture. He authored more than 40 books, including collections of his columns, essays, poetry and dialogues in Urdu and Sindhi languages. He also translated the works of the famous Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai from Sindhi to Urdu. He was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his literary contributions. He was a man of simple and humble nature, who avoided publicity and fame. He was a friend and mentor of many prominent writers and intellectuals of Pakistan, such as Qudratullah Shahab, Ashfaq Ahmed and Hanif Ramay. He died of cardiac arrest on 18 January 1993 in Lahore.
