Shoaib Hashmi was a Pakistani playwright, actor and academic who started his career as a child artist in Radio Pakistan in 1952. He made his film debut in Riwaj in 1964 and acted in more than 200 films in his career. He also appeared in many television dramas, such as Nazrana, the first-ever play of PTV, Andhera Ujala, Lakhon Main Teen, Aangan and Khaani. He was also a playwright and wrote the autobiographical one-man stage play Action and Reaction in 2011. He received many awards for his work, including Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award. He died of cancer on 15 May 2023 in Lahore at the age of 84. He was laid to rest in his hometown.
