Mirza Adeeb

Mirza Adeeb was a Pakistani dramatist, playwright and short story writer who wrote in Urdu and Punjabi language. He was born on 4 April 1914 in Lahore, British India to Mirza Basheer Ali. He attended Government Islamia High School and Islamia College in Lahore. He initially focused on poetry, then devoted himself to playwriting. He wrote romantic, realistic and progressive plays that dealt with social problems and common issues. He also wrote stories and biographies, as well as critical essays and commentaries on books. He was influenced by the Romanticist Movement and the Progressive Movement in Urdu literature. He was affiliated with Radio Pakistan and many of his plays were broadcast and gained popularity among the masses. He is considered one of the prominent Urdu playwrights of the Modern Era. He won six prizes and awards from the Pakistan Writers' Guild, including the Pride of Performance in 1981. He died on 31 July 1999 in Lahore, Pakistan.
