Aliya Nazir

Aliya Nazir, also known as Nickie, was a Pakistani fashion designer and co-founder of the Nickie Nina brand, along with her sister Nabila Junaid, aka Nina. She was one of the first female designers in Pakistan who started their own label in the 1990s and gained international recognition for their unique couture designs. She was inspired by the Mughal, Persian, Turkish and Indian art forms and used vibrant colors, intricate embroidery, and geometric patterns to create her outfits. She also experimented with different fabrics, such as silk, chiffon, organza, and velvet. She designed various collections, such as bridal, formal, casual, and pret wear, and participated in many national and international fashion shows and exhibitions. She also dressed many celebrities, such as Mahira Khan, Sajal Aly, Ayesha Omar, and Mehwish Hayat. She received many awards for her work, including Lux Style Award, Hum Style Award, and Pakistan Fashion Award. She also taught fashion design at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design and mentored many young designers. She died of cancer on 4 June 2023 in Lahore at the age of 47. She was laid to rest in her hometown.
