Ahmed Parvez

Ahmed Parvez was a Pakistani painter who lived and worked in London and New York. He was awarded the University Shield for men at the annual All Pakistan Art Exhibition in 1952. He exhibited his work in several solo and group shows in Pakistan, Britain, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. His paintings are part of the permanent collections of the Tate, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and others. He was influenced by modernism, especially Paul Klee, and used geometric shapes, patterns, and calligraphy to create abstract compositions. He was also interested in Islamic art and culture, and painted classical literature from the poetic verses of Ghalib, Iqbal, and Faiz. He received the President's Pride of Performance Award in 1978. He died of natural causes in Karachi in 1979. He is considered as one of the most influential and original painters of Pakistan.
