Pappu Sain

Pappu Sain was a Pakistani sufi dhol player who performed every Thursday evening at the Tomb of Shah Jamal in Ichhra, Lahore, Pakistan. He was born in 1925 or 1926 in Lahore and started playing dhol at a young age. He was known for his ecstatic and trance-inducing style of playing, which attracted many devotees and admirers. He was accompanied by his son Qalandar Baksh and another dhol player named Goonga Sain, who played upstairs while Pappu Sain played downstairs. He also performed at various national and international festivals and events, where he showcased his unique fusion of sufi and folk music. He died in 2021 at the age of 95 or 96 after a brief illness. He was buried at the Tomb of Shah Jamal, where he had played for decades.
