Adelaide Chiozzo

Adelaide Chiozzo was born in 1931, in São Paulo. She studied at the drama school O Tablado before her film debut in 1947 in Esse Mundo É um Pandeiro. In 1949, she made her first appearance on TV in the program Alma do Sertão. The actress participated in several soap operas on Rede Globo, including Feijão Maravilha and Deus nos Acuda. She also starred in many chanchada films, such as Aviso aos Navegantes, Aí Vem o Barão, É Fogo na Roupa, and Garotas e Samba. She received several awards and trophies, among them, the title of "The Sweetheart of Brazil" (the first in the country). She also had a successful career as a singer, recording more than twenty albums and performing songs like "Beijinho Doce", "Sabiá na Gaiola", "Pedalando" and "Recruta Biruta". She played the accordion in many of her shows and recordings, becoming one of the most famous accordionists in Brazil. She married film director Carlos Matos in 1975, and they had an adopted daughter, Cristina, who became a singer. She suffered from cancer for several years, which limited her ability to work in her later years. She died in 2020, at the age of 88, in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered in the sea, as she wished. She is regarded as one of the greatest and most versatile artists in Brazilian history, and an inspiration for many generations of artists.
