Angelines Fernandez

Angelines Fernández was a Spanish-born Mexican actress and comedian who started her career in theatre with Adolfo Marsillach. She made her film debut in 1956 and appeared in more than 50 films and television series. She was known for her roles as Sara, the nemesis of Cantinflas's character Padre Sebastián, in El padrecito, and as Doña Clotilde "La Bruja del 71" in El Chavo del Ocho, a sitcom that ran for nine seasons and became a cultural phenomenon across Latin America and Spain. She also worked with acclaimed directors such as Luis Buñuel, Jaime de Armiñán, and Mario Camus. She was an anti-Franco refugee who fled Spain in 1947 and after a brief time in Cuba she settled in Mexico. She was a personal friend of Ramón Valdés, who played Don Ramón in El Chavo del Ocho, and Chespirito, the creator of the show. She also participated in Chespirito's other show, El Chapulín Colorado, and played Ignacia Fernández "Doña Nachita", a gossipy neighbor in the Los caquitos sketches. She died from lung cancer at the age of 69 in 1994. She was buried at Mausoleos del Ángel in Mexico City. She received several awards and honors for her work, including the Gold Medal for Merit in Work from the Spanish government in 2007. She is considered one of the most beloved and iconic figures of Mexican television and comedy.
