Jaime Sabines

Jaime Sabines was a Mexican contemporary poet and politician who belonged to the generation of the half century. His literary work is considered one of the most outstanding of the 20th century. His poetic work is developed through the inspiration of the social places where our daily lives are developed. He wrote about love, death, pain, joy, and everyday things with a simple and direct language that captivated many readers. He also participated in politics and became a federal deputy for the First District of Chiapas and for the Federal District. He received several awards and honors for his literary and political achievements, such as the Xavier Villaurrutia Award, the Elías Sourasky Award, the National Literature Award, and the Belisario Domínguez Medal of Honor. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1999, leaving behind a legacy of poetry that transcends time and borders.
