Francois Reichenbach

François Reichenbach was a French filmmaker who directed over 40 films between 1954 and 1993. He was known for his documentaries on various topics, such as America, Mexico, music, art, and sports. He also collaborated with Orson Welles on the film F for Fake (1973), a playful exploration of the themes of art and deception. He won several awards for his films, including the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival for The Winner (1961) and the Louis Delluc Prize for the same film. He was also a cousin of the film producer Pierre Braunberger, who encouraged him to make films. He was influenced by the New Wave cinema movement and used innovative techniques such as handheld camera, direct sound, and editing. He had a free and respectful look at others and was a privileged witness of his time. He died of cancer in 1993 and was buried in Limoges, where he had spent his vacations in his youth. He left behind a rich and diverse cinematic legacy that reflects his curiosity and passion for life.
