About me / Bio:
Brian Jones was a talented musician who played a variety of instruments, such as guitar, harmonica, keyboards, sitar, saxophone, marimba, and recorder. He was the original leader of the Rolling Stones, a band he formed in 1962 with the aim of playing blues music. He also gave the band its name and booked their first gigs. He contributed to many of the band's early recordings and performances, and developed a distinctive style of guitar playing that influenced many other musicians. He also experimented with different musical genres and cultures, such as Moroccan, Indian, and Eastern music. However, Jones gradually lost his role in the band as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards became the main songwriters and decision-makers. He also developed problems with drugs and alcohol, which affected his health and reliability. He was arrested twice for drug possession in 1967 and 1968, and faced the possibility of imprisonment or deportation. He also had a turbulent personal life, with several relationships and children out of wedlock. He was involved in a violent altercation with his girlfriend Anita Pallenberg, who later left him for Richards. In June 1969, Jones was asked to leave the Rolling Stones by the other members, who felt he was no longer able to contribute to the band's music or tours. He was replaced by Mick Taylor, a young guitarist who had impressed them with his skills. Jones announced his departure from the band in a press statement, saying that he wanted to pursue his own musical interests. Less than a month later, on July 3, 1969, Jones was found dead in the swimming pool at his home at Cotchford Farm in East Sussex. He was 27 years old. The coroner ruled his death as "death by misadventure", meaning an accidental drowning caused by drug and alcohol intoxication. However, some people have speculated that Jones was murdered by someone who had a grudge against him or wanted to rob him. Several suspects have been named over the years, but no conclusive evidence has been found to support any of these theories. Jones's death shocked the music world and his fans. He was one of the first members of the "27 Club", a group of musicians who died at the age of 27 under tragic circumstances. His death was also followed by two other high-profile deaths in 1970: Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. His former bandmates paid tribute to him at a free concert in Hyde Park two days after his death, where they dedicated a song to him and released thousands of butterflies into the air. Many other musicians have also honored Jones in their songs or poems, such as Pete Townshend, Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Donovan, and John Lennon. Jones is widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 1960s and one of the founding fathers of rock music. He is remembered for his creativity, versatility, charisma, and originality. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Rolling Stones in 1989. His musical legacy and influence can still be heard in many artists today.
