About me / Bio:
Nicolae Leon was a prominent Romanian biologist and the elder half-brother of naturalist Grigore Antipa. Born on April 15, 1862, in Băiceni, Botoșani County, he pursued his studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Iași and later specialized in zoology at the University of Jena. His return to Iași marked the beginning of a distinguished academic career, culminating in his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Rector of the University of Iași. Leon's contributions to science include founding the first parasitology laboratory in Romania and being a staunch advocate of evolutionary theory. His research on malaria laid the groundwork for plans to eradicate the disease in Romania.
