Saengchai Sunthornwat was a Thai journalist, lawyer, and writer, known for his work as the director of MCOT. He was born on June 12, 1943, in Prachin Buri Province, Thailand. Saengchai completed his secondary education at Triam Udom Suksa School and earned a bachelor's degree from Thammasat University. He furthered his studies in the United States, where he also worked in law and restaurants. In 1982, he began his journalism career, writing columns for Phim Thai and Daily News. His column "Fud Fid For Fai" gained popularity in 1983. Saengchai returned to Thailand and served as the director of MCOT from 1993 until his untimely death by assassination on April 11, 1996, in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. He was posthumously honored with the Commander of the Order of the Crown of Thailand.
