About me / Bio:
Thạch Lam was a prominent Vietnamese writer known for his contributions to the Tự Lực văn đoàn (Self-Reliant Literary Group). Born as Nguyen Tuong Vinh in Hanoi, he later changed his name to Nguyen Tuong Lan. He was the brother of fellow writers Nhất Linh and Hoàng Đạo. His literary works, which include "Gió đầu mùa" (The First Wind of the Season), "Nắng trong vườn" (Sunshine in the Garden), and "Sợi tóc" (The Hair Strand), are celebrated for their realistic and romantic depictions of society. Thạch Lam's essays, particularly "Hà Nội băm sáu phố phường" (36 Streets of Hanoi), offer a vivid portrayal of Hanoi's culture and lifestyle during the early 20th century. Despite his untimely death from tuberculosis at the age of 31, his works continue to influence Vietnamese literature.
