Tran Dan

Trần Dần was a Vietnamese poet and novelist noted for his radical works. He was born in Nam Dinh and joined the Viet Minh in 1946 at the age of twenty. Eight years later, he returned to Hanoi following the battle of Dien Bien Phu and the departure of the French forces from northern Vietnam. He was best known for being one of the active participants in the Nhân Văn affair in the mid-1950s, which saw many middle-class intellectuals demanding freedom and democracy in communist-led Vietnam. His contributions to Vietnamese literature and his advocacy for freedom left a lasting impact on the country's cultural landscape.
