Le Duan

Lê Duẩn was a Vietnamese communist politician who played a significant role in the history of Vietnam. He was born on April 7, 1907, in Quảng Trị Province, within the Annam Protectorate of French Indochina. His early life saw him working as a railway clerk where he first encountered revolutionary ideas. A founding member of the Indochina Communist Party in 1930, Lê Duẩn was imprisoned by the French colonial authorities due to his political activities. After his release, he continued to rise within the party ranks, eventually becoming the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the 3rd National Congress in 1960. He succeeded Hồ Chí Minh in leading Vietnam through a period of significant change, including the Vietnam War and the reunification of North and South Vietnam. Lê Duẩn's policies and leadership left a lasting impact on Vietnam's development and its position in the world. He passed away on July 10, 1986, in Hanoi, Vietnam, and was laid to rest in Mai Dich Cemetery.
