Harrison McCain

Harrison McCain was a Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist who co-founded McCain Foods Limited, a global leader in the frozen food industry, with his three brothers in 1957. He was born in Florenceville-Bristol, New Brunswick, in 1927 and grew up on a potato farm. He graduated from Acadia University and worked as a sales executive for Irving Oil before starting his own cheese business in Chicago. He returned to Canada and joined forces with his brothers to build the first frozen french-fry plant in eastern Canada. He faced many challenges and setbacks, but he persevered and expanded his company with the help of his brothers and his wife Marion. He became the chairman and CEO of McCain Foods, which grew to operate in over 50 countries and employ over 12,000 people. He was involved in many innovative and successful products, such as pizza, juice, vegetables, and desserts. He was also a generous donor to various educational and cultural causes, especially Acadia University, McGill University, and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. He was named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1992 and received the Order of New Brunswick in 2001. He died of kidney failure in 2004 at the age of 76. He was buried in Florenceville Cemetery in his hometown. He left behind a legacy of excellence and innovation in the food industry and a family business that continues to thrive.
