Victor Kennedy Copps was a prominent Canadian politician who served as the Mayor of Hamilton, Ontario from 1962 to 1976. He was born on March 21, 1919, in Haileybury, Ontario. During World War II, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, he worked for a local newspaper in Timmins, Ontario, before moving to Hamilton to become a sports broadcaster. His political career began in 1960, and he became Hamilton's first Roman Catholic mayor and its second-longest serving mayor. Under his leadership, Hamilton underwent significant urban renewal. He was also the father of Sheila Copps, a former Canadian cabinet minister.
