Janusz Glowacki

Janusz Głowacki was a Polish writer, essayist, and dramatist who gained popularity with his satirical stories and columns in the 1960s and 1970s. He wrote the screenplay for Andrzej Wajda's Hunting Flies and co-wrote the screenplay for the cult comedy The Cruise. He also wrote several novels, such as The Beautiful Mrs. Seidenman and Good Night, Dzerzhinsky. He emigrated to the United States in 1981 after the imposition of martial law in Poland and continued his career as a playwright and screenwriter. He wrote several acclaimed plays, such as Antigone in New York, The Fourth Sister, and Hunting Cockroaches. He also collaborated with Paweł Pawlikowski on the screenplay for Cold War, which was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA. He was awarded many prizes and honors, such as the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Jurzykowski Prize, the Czesław Miłosz Award, and the Order of Polonia Restituta. He died of a heart attack in Egypt in 2017.
