Wladyslaw Witwicki

Władysław Witwicki was a Polish psychologist, philosopher, translator, historian, and artist. He is considered one of the fathers of psychology in Poland and one of the representatives of the Lwów-Warsaw school of philosophy. He studied at the University of Lviv under Kazimierz Twardowski and later at the University of Vienna and Leipzig. He taught at the University of Lviv and Warsaw, where he became a professor in 1919. He was also one of the founders of the Polish Philosophical Society. He wrote the first Polish textbooks on psychology and developed his own theories of cratism and feelings. He also translated Plato's works into Polish and commented on the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. He was interested in the psychology of religion and secular ethics. He was also an artist who illustrated books, created watercolors, etchings, woodcuts, and sculptures. He helped his son Janusz create the Plastic Panorama of Old Lviv. He died of a heart attack in 1948.
