Emil Zegadlowicz

Emil Zegadłowicz was a Polish poet, prose writer, novelist, playwright, translator, and expert of art. He was a co-originator of Polish expressionism and a member of expressionist groups Zdrój and Czartak. He studied Polish and German philology and history of art at various universities. He worked as a literary manager, editor, radio director, and lecturer. He translated works by Goethe, Schiller, and Rilke. He wrote poems, novels, plays, and essays that reflected his interest in art, nature, and social issues. He was a controversial figure who faced criticism from the Catholic Church and the right-wing press. He died of a heart attack in Sosnowiec in 1941.
