Jorgen Ingmann

Jørgen Ingmann was a Danish guitarist and producer who was one of the most popular and influential artists in Denmark. He started his career as a jazz musician and played with Svend Asmussen in the 1940s and early 1950s. He was influenced by American guitarist and recording studio pioneer Les Paul. In the mid-1950s he set up his own studio where he developed techniques of multi-tracking and distortion, using his own accompaniment on bass and drums. He recorded under the name Jørgen Ingmann & His Guitar and had an international hit in 1961 with his version of "Apache". He also won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix in 1963 with his wife Grethe Ingmann and represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Dansevise". He recorded many jazz and easy listening albums and songs, as well as pop and rock music. He also worked as a recording chief for Metronome Records and collaborated with many other musicians and bands. He retired from music in 1984 after a period of ill-health. He died of a heart attack at the age of 89.
