Lari Williams was a Nigerian actor, poet, and playwright who was one of the pioneers of Nollywood. He started his career in the 1960s and became famous for his roles in popular soap operas such as The Village Headmaster, Ripples, and Mirror in the Sun. He also wrote and directed several plays, such as The Gods Are Not to Blame, The Trial of Ovonramwen, and The Dance of Death. He was awarded the Member of the Order of Nigeria (MON) and later upgraded to the Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON) for his contributions to the Nigerian arts and culture. He was also a teacher and mentor to many young actors and writers. He died at his home in Ikom, Cross River State, on 27 February 2022, at the age of 81, after a long illness. He was described as a legend and a colossus of the African creative industry.
