Olusola Saraki was born on 17 May 1933 in Ilorin, Kwara State. He attended Eko Boys High School and St George's Hospital Medical School in London. He worked as a medical officer in Lagos before joining politics in 1964. He was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly that produced the 1979 constitution. He became a Senator of the Second Republic and the Senate Leader. He was also a presidential aspirant under the Social Democratic Party in the Third Republic. He was a national leader and member of the Board of Trustees of the All People's Party and later the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria. He was influential in the politics of Kwara State and the northern region. He was the father of Bukola Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State and Senate President of Nigeria, and Gbemisola Saraki, a former senator and minister. He died on 14 November 2012 in Lagos after a long battle with cancer. He was buried in Ilorin and given the chieftaincy title of Waziri of the Ilorin Emirate.
